Château Bon Baron

Belgium

"Our plants in the vineyards attract good insects which eat the bad ones..."

Château Bon Baron is situated in the beautiful valley of the river Meuse, in the Walloon region in Belgium. Owner Jeanette van der Steen and her husband Piotr went in a very short timeframe from amateur winemakers to winning medals at international competitions and achieving AOC ‘Côtes de Sambre et Meuse’ status for some of their wines.

They take into consideration the great diversity and mineralogy of the soil, the local climatologic and micro-climatologic information and their own personal diverse tastes. Now they produce in three different vineyards fourteen different grape varieties, reflecting their obsession with pairing food and wine, the chemistry between the dish and the wine.

Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen

Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen

The foundations of the château of Genoels-Elderen, in the Belgium province of Limburg, date back to Roman times. The Romans knew already that the conditions for winemaking were really good in this area because the property used to have 25 hectares of vineyards back then. In 1990 it was this winery that started the renaissance of winemaking in Belgium by planting the first vines again. What started merely as a hobby turned into an impressive winery.
